LAREDO, TX - Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28), considered by many to be one of the most conservative Democrats in Congress, has switched parties—but not to the one everybody expected.
During his tenure as a Democrat, Congressman Cuellar has had numerous clashes with immigration activist groups over his hard-line border security policies.
According to the congressman, these clashes have taught him that human life should be placed above else, and that "no human being is illegal."
"I have considered this change for months," Congressman Cuellar wrote in a press release. "My initial conversations with activist groups, specifically those pushing for immigration reform, have planted a seed of compassion in my heart. And now, months later, that seed has grown into a sapling craving for spiritual nourishment. We are all children of the Earth. Borders are a human construct. No human being is illegal."
The congressman concluded the press release by stating that he will change his focus to environmental activism in order to nurture his sapling.
